Questions, plainly answered
A few things to know before you call.
The project is still preparing to open. Here is what we know now, and what the service is intended to do when the public line is live.
Who is behind Hello from Poland?
The project was created by Omar Alshaker as an independent, non-profit initiative funded by him. It is not an official tourism programme or public authority service.
Who might answer when I call?
An available volunteer who has signed up through the app while in Poland. The selection is random, so each call may offer a different region, routine, accent, or perspective.
Is the public number live already?
Not yet. The public number is being prepared and will be published on the home page when the service is ready to receive calls.
How much will a call cost?
The project does not promise free calls. Your provider determines the cost of calling the Polish number, based on your plan, location, and the time of your call.
Will the other person see my telephone number?
No. Calls are routed through the service, and the caller’s number is not shared with the volunteer. A volunteer’s personal number is not shared with the caller either.
Why might nobody answer?
It may be outside volunteer availability, many people may be trying to call, or no verified volunteer may be free at that particular time. A missed connection is not a rejection—please try another time.
What language will we speak?
The initial volunteer check asks for basic English: enough to greet someone and have an everyday conversation. No one needs to speak polished or perfect English.
Are calls recorded?
For safety reasons, calls may be recorded and retained for up to 90 days from the day they occur. The project will provide the relevant notice before recording-capable calls are connected.
Can I end the call?
Yes. There is no expected duration. Either person can end the conversation whenever they are ready.
